FAQ
What does a typical session look like?
An initial session includes a 90-minute comprehensive assessment. The assessment is used to help guide the clinician to better understand a client’s goals and needs. Once these have been identified, the clinician and client work together to decide what the next steps for each client will look like. Follow-up sessions are either 25 or 50 minutes long, with a focus on guiding clients towards reaching their nutrition goals. Clients are not obligated to a certain amount of sessions and can quit therapy at any time (Please note our cancellation policy).
What to Expect for a Session With Your Child?
Parents and children play a vital role in the recovery process. When working with families, we structure appointments to incorporate both the parents, and the child, in each session. During an initial assessment, both parents and the child are asked to be a part of the session. Parents are given an opportunity to state their goals and concerns. They are then asked to step out for a child to complete the initial assessment. For follow up appointments, sessions are typically structured the following way - a clinician will meet with the child individually, then meet with the parents, and then you will all meet together to discuss the next steps in the nutrition care process.
What is Family-Based Treatment?
Family Based Treatment, also known as FBT or the Maudsley method, is considered the gold standard of treatment for adolescents with Eating Disorders. Through FBT, parents are empowered and guided to help bring about recovery for their child. We have seen that the more we work to equip the family to help a child heal, the more successful a child's recovery is. We look forward to partnering with you as you help your child heal from their Eating Disorder.
What is Intuitive Eating?
Intuitive Eating is a nutrition philosophy that focuses on internal hunger and fullness cues to regulate appetite and weight, instead of diets. It is a weight-neutral approach that focuses on health being determined by criteria such as mood, energy, sleep, labs, and hormones instead of weight-targeted goals. Intuitive eating is designed to help individuals heal from a history of dieting while fostering one’s ability to reconnect with, and trust their body.
What about insurance?
I am a credentialed provider with BCBS. I am able to bill BCBS for all clients who live in the state of North Carolina. I am considered an out-of-network provider with all other insurance companies. Some insurance companies will reimburse a portion of the fees paid for services. Upon request, I am able to provide an itemized receipt that may be submitted individually to your insurance company for potential reimbursement based off of your individual insurance plan.
What form of payment do you take?
We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards
Can you help me lose weight?
A growing body of research shows that diets simply don’t work. Instead of promoting long term weight loss and health, for most people, diet success was the exception not the rule. Diets have actually been shown to negatively impact mood, insulin, sleep, and self esteem. Instead of focusing on weight loss, I work with clients to help them nourish their bodies well, move in a way that feels good, normalize labs, and find peace with their bodies.
